Top 5 Mistakes in Paid Social Media Ads

by Crystal Dupuis

1. The Target Audience

Target Audience is one of the one mistakes paid social media ads make. You should not advertise a single ad on social media until you have a clear picture of what community you’re trying to get the attention or who your ideal customer is. You must use effective demographic so that you get a statistical view of the population, generally including age, gender, income, schooling, and occupation.

Many brands make a mistake of creating one specific target audience, so they end up leaving value that is on the table. When trying the several ad variations, create four different or three audiences to check how the result across the board. You might realize that some ads that don’t do well with a certain audience will excel with another audience. Design your own bag.

2. Image Quality

In social media, advertising images should be good enough to stand alone. Don’t hastily choose images of low quality and without giving it any thought, you start pasting them into your ads.

When creating an ad, the time it takes in image selection and creation should be 60 to 90%. It’s what will get the attention of your audience when they scroll through the feeds, so its the single most important aspect.

3. Creating a Single Ad

One common mistake among new social media advertisers is that they step away after creating one ad only. You should know that what generates the 80% of the value is 20% of your ads. Your chance of finding a version that works for you is very slim if you only create one ad.

Try creating 5 versions of your ad or more. It’s even advisable to go with ten to twelve If you have the time and resources. You will get opportunity to try different images, placement, headlines, e.t.c

4. Effective Headlines

The most seen section of your social media ad is the headline. As the audience scroll through their feed, they will see the headline close to the picture first. If you don’t know how to create headlines that will work best, aim for being specific instead of being clever or witty. The headline should not be ineffective and dull.

You should always try to make the social media ads headlines precise and tell the audience why it’s useful for them to consider your ad and what they will get from the advertisement. Put yourself in the shoes of your audience.

5. Stay Up-To-Date

Social media keep on updating their ad format; this can be very tricky for people who are new to know which will be the best match for their audience. Different type of ads can be effective for different reasons. You must research on each format to make sure you have chosen one that’s optimal for your intended audience. With ad types changing nature, maintenance is required to ensure you get most out of your advertisement.

When you follow these five steps, you will always be a step ahead of your competitors. Magnify the problem after isolating then you will have mastered the fundamentals.
